Personalised Care

Aims to provide each woman with personalised midwifery care through pregnancy, labour, birth, immediately after the baby is born including the following postnatal days up to 3-4 weeks

Postpartum care (up to 3 hours after the baby's birth) is based on the philosophy that the first breastfeed is extremely important. It is so important that nothing should interrupt this time of heightened awareness between a mother and her baby.  The newborn has innate neurological responses to instinctively breastfeed. Close observation of the baby will guide you to uninterrupted breastfeeding. Under most circumstances the first breastfeed should be completed before your midwife leaves. The next step is to ensure that early and subsequent breastfeeding advice and assistance is consistent, individualised and ongoing support and education is readily available

Where are these services provided?

In your own home, in a birth centre, conventional labour ward, recovery room or postnatal ward. Your care can also be shared with another midwife or medical practitioner. Individual components such as personalised prenatal or postnatal care maybe your choice

first consultation  Return to top

This first consultation is generally a 1 hour Information Visit,  during preconception or early pregnancy.  This time  is designed to provide you with information about choices specific to your individual needs or preferences. A consultation fee applies.

After this visit it is advisable to consider your preferred option/s and telephone to confirm a booking to employ the service of your personal midwife if that is your choice. There is no obligation to return. The number of Bookings per month are limited.

There are no rules that exclude a woman from considering her option/s regardless of her previous history.  For some women talking to a midwife is a reflective time to open up channels for early debriefing.  Reflecting on past experience/s assists positive movement toward a fresh outlook
